What we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique account identifier and, if provided, your email and display name.
- Location. With your permission, we use your location to tag where you spotted a bird and show nearby sightings on the map. Only accessed while the app is in use.
- Photos. With your permission, the app accesses your camera and photo library so you can attach photos to a sighting.
- Push notification token. If you enable notifications, we store a device token to deliver likes, replies, and reminders.
- User content. Sightings, comments, and reports you submit.
How we use it
Solely to run the app: showing sightings on the map, enabling comments and likes, sending notifications you've opted into, and moderating reported content.
Data sharing
We don't sell your data. It's stored with our backend provider, Supabase, and shared with third parties only as needed to run the app, such as Apple Push Notification service for delivering notifications.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. To request deletion, contact us below.
Children's privacy
BirdSpot isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here.
